Stacks of pieces of furniture.

Upholsterer, 2019

I am most fulfilled when I can use both sides of my brain. I enjoy the entire upholstering process: laying out the fabric or leather, cutting the patterns, building the cushion, sticking, then installing.

We made several pieces for Harvard University, and I had a chance to go down to Boston to see all the furniture after it arrived. Even though I had worked on every piece, it was stunning to see it all in one place. It was neat to look around and say to myself, “Wow, I had a hand in making all of these.”

“Like the woodworkers, we are constantly making choices. In our case, it’s about the best way to use our materials, so they work both aesthetically and functionally.”
