Where Heart Meets Hand:
The quiet power of honest craftsmanship
There exists a profound beauty in things shaped by human hands. This is the place where Farmhouse Pottery and Thos. Moser naturally converge, creating a partnership born from a shared philosophy.
Founded in 2012, Farmhouse Pottery is a Vermont-based studio committed to crafting simple, honest pottery. Every piece reflects authenticity, integrity, and a slower, more intentional way of living. That same reverence for material and devotion to the craft is at the heart of Thos. Moser and each brand understands that true artistry lies not only in what is made, but in how and why it is made.
Shaped by Maine
Farmhouse Pottery founder James studied at Maine College of Art & Design (MECA), where he earned a degree in Ceramics and immersed himself in the technical and decorative aspects of pottery. “They taught me everything I needed to know about materials and techniques of the craft,” he reflects. Under the guidance of Mark Johnson, Lucy Breslin, Marian Baker, and others, James deepened his understanding of both 2D and 3D design while exploring art history and aesthetic traditions, particularly American and French. One mentor, Jon Keenan, who studied pottery in Tokyo, introduced him to the Japanese philosophy of Wabi Sabi, the belief in finding beauty in imperfection. That idea would later help shape the Farmhouse style.
“The professors at Maine College of Art taught me everything I needed to know about materials and techniques.”

When honest materials meet hand craft, the result transcends mere function, making our two brands natural partners. Beginning with elemental materials, clay or wood, the products produced are functional pieces of artwork crafted by hand and guided with skill, care, and respect for tradition. The wheel-thrown motion of clay mirrors the hand-chiseled joinery of wood. Each relies on clean lines and understated refinement to reveal the natural beauty of the material is inseparable from the finished piece. The outcome is an intentional piece you can feel and see. When placed together, Farmhouse Pottery and Thos. Moser furniture does not compete for attention; it complements one another.

The Beauty of the handmade and the art of the human experience
There is an unspoken truth to the work of Farmhouse Pottery and Thos. Moser: objects made by hand enrich our lives in quiet, lasting ways. They ground us in ritual. A morning cup of coffee, the gathering of family for dinner, the stillness of a home at rest. When craft is led by heart and hand, the result is not a fleeting style but an enduring legacy. Farmhouse Pottery and Thos. Moser reminds us that the objects we choose to live with shape not only our homes, but our lives.
