I had been attending artist residencies for the winter months for a few years when friends invited me to visit them in San Miguel, where they had rented a place for January through May. I was happy to change my ritual working time to see somewhere new. I took lots of photos and used them as subject matter when I got home. The architecture and the colored adobe walls, the graffiti, and all the street dogs were eye candy for me. Particularly, the common practice of keeping dogs on the flat roofs of private homes, and using them as yard dogs and doorbells above the street, was amusing and often startling.
