WATERVILLE, ME | 2023
When Colby College set out to create a new landmark for the arts, the goal was clear: design a space both iconic and adaptable. The Gordon Center for Creative and Performing Arts—by William Rawn Associates, Architects Inc.—delivers on that promise, serving as a flexible hub where creativity thrives.
The 300-seat performance hall embodies the versatility today’s arts spaces demand. Wrapped in warm wood with a rear glass wall for openness or shading, it adapts to a wide range of performances. Acoustics are fully customizable, while the adjustable stage and orchestra pit expand or contract the footprint as needed.
To support this flexibility, Colby selected Thos. Moser’s Pacific stacking chair. Lightweight yet durable, the chairs include ganging hardware for quick reconfiguration—locking into rows or stacking when not in use. Customized upholstery and maple finishes coordinate with the stadium seating, creating an elegant, functional solution that is seamlessly integrated into the architecture.
