St. Timothy’s School is an all-girls boarding school located in Maryland. Thos. Moser’s relationship with the school began several years ago with a three-year working partnership to complete one of the school’s most ambitious projects, Dixon Hall. Moser’s work included a 150-seat library, a language arts room, Harkness-style tables throughout, and all public-space furniture. The relationship has since evolved to include several additional installations including the school’s Chapel and upcoming Five Arts Center.
Among these projects is The Commons and Redland Café. Located at the center of campus, this communal area is where students gather daily to share meals and connect with their classmates. The space, designed by SLAM Collaborative, seats 200 and includes a café and lounge. The vision for The Commons was to be equal parts living room and dining room, and as such, it needed to include a variety of seating options from lounge areas and high tops to more traditional dining tables and chairs. Thos. Moser created custom solutions, including communal tables and benches, to satisfy the flexible environment of the space. Like the building itself, the furniture is Shaker inspired and incorporates the clean and simple lines found in Shaker design
