NEW YORK, NY | 2021
In the spring of 2018, the New York Public Library (NYPL) announced its intention to commission a new and highly anticipated reading chair for the library system’s largest and busiest branch, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library (SNFL). After a complete renovation, SNFL is the central circulating branch for NYPL and services more than 1.7 million visitors annually with an annual circulation of 2 million items.
Working closely with NYPL and architect, Francine Houben of Mecanoo, Thos. Moser was able to translate the library's design requests, to be durable, easy to clean, and comfortable for patrons to enjoy for several hours, into a chair that is both functional and exquisitely made.
