The Inwood Library— Joseph and Sheila Rosenblatt Building is Manhattan’s northernmost branch, serving a large, multi-ethnic community. The new space features dedicated areas for adults, kids, and teens—including a new Teen Center with enhanced programming, resources, and technology for young adults. In addition to the library, the energy-efficient building will offer affordable housing and community center programming, including a STEM center, a training kitchen, and a preschool. The library will also host a bilingual program and story hours to bridge the gap for Pre-K children and ESL classes for adults in the community.
The library’s atrium, with floor-to-ceiling windows, prominently features furniture designed by Thos. Moser. The NYPL connection with Thos. Moser began in the spring of 2018 when it announced its intention to commission a new and highly anticipated reading chair for the library system’s largest and busiest branch, the Stavros Niarchos Foundation Library. Thos. Moser was awarded the honor, and since that time, newly renovated branches have incorporated the NYPL Branch chair into their spaces.
In addition to the iconic NYPL Branch Chair, the Inwood Library is the first branch to pair the NYPL Branch chair with our Syracuse Reading Tables. The expansive study tables feature solid grain-matched boards designed with integrated power and lighting running down the table’s center, providing unparalleled beauty, functionality, and workability.
