The Fondren Foundation Centennial Reading Room brings together restored architectural grandeur and finely crafted furnishings to create a quiet, focused environment for study. At its center are handcrafted American cherry tables and chairs designed by Thos. Moser, each piece built to support long hours of reading, writing, and reflection with enduring comfort and quiet strength.
Arranged throughout the 5,100-square-foot space, the furniture is designed for both individual focus and collaborative study, with four- and six-person tables equipped with integrated lighting and power. Warm wood tones and traditional forms complement the restored white oak bookcases and original architectural detailing, creating a cohesive material language rooted in craft.
Each table is illuminated by amber-hued lamps that echo the room’s historic character, reinforcing a sense of calm and continuity. The result is a space where furniture is not incidental, but central, shaping how students experience one of the library’s most significant study environments.
