$1,435.00 - $1,865.00
Apart from its simple, striking profile, the Auburn Chair’s most prominent feature is its curved hardwood back – an anticlastic curve – carved from a single piece of hand-finished wood and supports the lumbar in two directions at once. Its inspiration was a simple cafeteria chair that caught Tom and Mary Moser’s attention on a ferry trip from Maine to Nova Scotia and named after the longtime location of our workshop in Auburn, Maine.

A commitment to perfection.
Handmade from a single piece of wood, the Auburn Chair’s back flows gracefully into the sweep of its curved rear legs, connected by the sculpted seat to a pair of freestanding front legs. Unified by almost invisible mortise-and-tenon joinery, the Auburn Chair demonstrates the gratifying result of Tom Moser’s endless commitment to – and pursuit of – perfection.
It’s All In the Details
“Whether from my sense of responsibility, my curiosity or perhaps closer to the truth, from my creative stubbornness, I find myself still drawn to the workbench,” Tom Moser said of his drive to create what became the Auburn Chair. Over the course of an enduring exploration, Tom worked to perfect the potato-chip-shaped anticlastic back, with each prototype moving toward the chair’s ultimate design.
