Wine tasting, light fare and wine raffle.
About the artist:
Gary Conway is an artist, musician, actor, writer, and winemaker – truly a Renaissance man of our time. Conway discovered he had both a love of and talent for fine art in his teens, and, was the youngest artist to win a prize at the LA County Art Exhibition. He was subsequently awarded scholarships to study art at Otis College of Art and Design and UCLA. Upon graduating from UCLA, Conway committed himself to art, yet he did not abandon his other notable talents and passions: Conway is an accomplished violinist, architect, screenwriter, and television star whose roles earned him international success.
Conway built his present studio and gallery in the middle of his vineyard in the Central Coast of California. He discovered the property, 320 acres of idyllic beauty, from a helicopter just moments before it crashed. Emerging from the wreckage, Gary exclaimed to the still stunned real estate broker, “I'm going to buy this place”! The rich soil quality accounts for the success of Carmody McKnight Wines, which was voted the number one winery on the Central Coast of California.
About the winery:
Carmody McKnight is an estate winery owned by Gary and Marian Conway. Only three percent of the wineries in California are classified as estate. Being an estate winery, the grapes derive from the estate vineyard and from no where else. Among other important attributes, this means there is total viticultural quality control.
The north-south slopes of the Carmody McKnight have the advantage of an array of microclimate changes from hilltop to bottom -- microclimates hard to match in perfection for grapes - remarkable 50 degree temperature swings day to night during growing season. Because of these temperature swings, Carmody McKnight, on 24-hour daily average, is also one of the coolest regions in California. Wide temperature swings are essential for quality grapes. These temperature swings are the greatest of any vineyard area in the world.
