About our Featured Artist
We are proud to be featuring the work of artistMichael O’Rourke in our New York Showroom. This exhibit will be on display through May 31, 2008.

O’Rourke’s latest show, Constellation+, combines photographs from nature, from New York City, and from the Hubble Space Telescope. “The compositions reverse the standard photographic approach in which the representational aspect of the imagery dominates the viewer's reaction,” says O’Rourke. “The juxtaposition of different imagery forces the viewer to focus on the color and form relationships in a much more direct way.”

Each composition is printed in a signed limited edition of 20. Some of the prints are on paper, some on canvas. All prints are archival, using acid-free paper and canvas, and archival inks.

Michael O’Rourke is an artist, author, educator, and is currently a Professor at New York’s Pratt Institute's Department of Digital Arts where he has been senior member of the faculty since 1987. His teaching encompasses both digital imaging and computer animation, and his artwork includes sculpture, drawing, printmaking, and murals. He has shown his works all over the world including the Kennedy Center for the Arts (Wash. DC), the Musee d'Art Moderne (Paris), the Isetan Museum (Tokyo), Laumont Editions (New York, NY), the Hong Gah Museum (Taipei), Uma Gallery (New York, NY), and many others. Since 1999, his work has focused on large-scale multimedia murals that combine static imagery, real-time video, pre-recorded video, and pre-recorded sound.

His earliest professional experience was at the world-famous NYIT Computer Graphics Lab in the 1980's, where he worked with many of the pioneers and inventors of 3D computer imaging and animation. In the late 1980's and early 1990's, he did extensive work for the artist Frank Stella, producing sculptural models, graphics, and animation. More recently he has served as a digital-imaging consultant to a number of artists, including Jenny Holzer and Dorothea Rockburne. He is the author of two books and numerous articles about digital art.

Michael O’Rourke appears in our New York showroom as part of our "alternative gallery space" program, which highlights national and local artists in each of our showrooms across the country. His work will be on display until May 31, 2008.
