Ellen Rolli is a contemporary painter, interested in interpreting subject and emotion in an abstract and intuitive way. “I am interested and excited by the process,” explains the artist, “by daring paint application, by color, texture and the element of discovery.” Ellen maintains a full time studio/gallery in the SoWa arts district in the South End of Boston.

She is an artist member of the Copley Society of Art of Boston where she was recently promoted to Copley Artist status. She has won numberous awards for her work, and shares her talents with other artists by conducting one day painting workshops in her studio twice monthly. Mark Peterson has been taking and displaying determinedly urban photographs since 2004, mostly in Boston and surrounding areas. He is particularly interested in the irony of an elegantly composed picture of a banal site. Peterson prints his own work and has recently exhibited at The Nave Gallery in Somerville, Tufts University Art Gallery, and the Arsenal Center for the Arts in Watertown. He also prints for other photographers and creates giclee prints for other artists. On the side he consults in the computerization of healthcare practices.

The photographs on display in this show are from the series South Bay Yard which focuses on the general area of what was once was South Bay, the city’s inner harbor. Shown at right is Blue Tin Roof, 12"x18" (click to enlarge). More photos at siteandsituation.com and on display at Studio 228, 450 Harrison Avenue Boston.

Artwork will be on display through October 31, 2013.
