"Pelicans at Spinnaker Point"
The photographic images of Jean Schurtz offer his remembrances of a given scene’s reality. Strength of composition and vibrancies of color are hallmarks of his work. Nothing is staged; all subjects of his imagery are stumbled upon. His work offers true diversity, which is expected from this Gemini. Jean is self-taught.

Resulting from his current luck of proximity, more recent images capture the beauty of many natural and man-made settings in the San Francisco Bay area. The plains of eastern Colorado also inspire him, as do various urban settings on both coasts. Reflections of his great love of driving through the nation’s heartland, roadside images resonate with him and are some of his personal favorites.
“Art Is the Center of the Real World”
On a personal note, Jean was born and raised in a series of “Mayberry like” farm towns in Southwestern Minnesota. Decades ago he began collecting postcards; initially favoring black and white modern photography. One of his personal favorites is an oddity – a sepia-toned, museum-issued postcard of “Starry Night” by Van Gogh.
