Our upcoming art show:
DANA HOOPER and SYLVIA GONZALEZ
A self-taught artist, Dana Hooper is known for her adventurous paint handling. Her landscapes and animal motifs are often painted on location in a style inspired by the Society of Six and Bay Area figurative artists. Hooper is a Marin County native whose family has lived in the San Francisco Bay area for four generations.
Dana’s paintings may be seen at Viewpoints Gallery, Point Reyes Station; Magnolia Gallery, Larkspur; Thomas Reynolds Gallery, San Francisco; Gallatin River Gallery, Big Sky, Montana; Wilde Meyer Gallery, Tucson & Scottsdale, Arizona. She has participated annually in the Bolinas Museum’s auction and mini shows since the early 1990’s; Marin Agricultural Land Trust’s Ranches & Rolling Hills since 2000.
The works of Sylvia Gonzalez are soft pastel and mono type which are recognized by their richly textured backgrounds created by layering solid color fields interspersed with layers of imagery, and then finished with charcoal and pastel drawings on the surface. Sylvia has long loved the medium of pastel and is also known for her large scale pastels of fruits &vegetables and bird and owl compositions with sensual colors and striking composition.
Sylvia grew up in the Midwest and graduated from Ball State University in 1984 with a BFA and apprenticed with her uncle Wilfredo Arcay, a master printer of serigraphy in his Atelier in Paris. She came to San Francisco in 1988 and took printmaking, painting and drawing classes at
College of Marin, Kala Institute in Oakland and City College of San Francisco.
